Viral meningitis is the most common type of meningitis, an illness that occurs when the tissues that cover the brain and spinal cord are inflamed. In most cases, this form of the disease is caused by an infection with a group of viruses known as enteroviruses. Common symptoms include nausea and vomiting, drowsiness, and fever. No specific treatment for viral meningitis exists at this time; most people completely recover on their own.
